Getting Started with Loose Leaf Tea
Much like choosing dishes from a menu, start by selecting a few tea samples that appeal to your taste buds. First decide whether you prefer caffeine, then think about the flavor profiles you enjoy, such as mango, vanilla, or even chocolate. We even offer a chocolate-flavored tea for a delicious twist.
It’s a simple and rewarding process. Place two generous teaspoons of tea into a mesh strainer, either ours or one you already have. Pour hot water over the leaves and set a timer following the instructions on your Teadaytea pouch. When the timer rings, carefully lift the strainer, pause to admire the transformation, and savor the vibrant flavors of your freshly steeped, whole-leaf cup.
Depending on the size you choose, you can expect approximately the following yield:
- 2oz and 3oz pouches: Make about 30 cups.
- 5oz and 7oz pouches: Make about 70 cups.
Note: These estimates are based on using approximately two teaspoons of loose leaf tea per cup, though this may vary slightly depending on your preferred strength and the specific tea blend.
To keep your tea at its best, store it away from heat, light, and air. When you are ready to steep a cup, check that your water temperature and steeping time match the recommendations on your Teadaytea pouch.
Tea doesn’t expire in the way perishable foods do, but it gradually loses freshness over time. The “best by” date marks when the tea’s flavor and aroma are expected to be at their peak. Most teas are best enjoyed within one to two years, though they remain safe to drink beyond that if stored properly. You may notice a milder taste or aroma after this date, but it’s still perfectly fine to enjoy unless there are visible signs of spoilage, such as mold or an off smell.
Ingredients & Quality
Natural flavors are made from real ingredients to embody the essence of purity and authenticity. They are extracted from natural sources, including fruit, vegetables, spices, herbs, roots, leaves, buds, and bark, and distilled into concentrated liquid and powder formats. They are intended to impart aroma and flavor to food and beverage products in a manner that is similar to the original source.
Natural flavors allowed for use in certified organic foods are subject to a different, far more restrictive set of regulations. They cannot contain a long list of ingredients, including synthetic solvents, carriers, emulsifiers, or artificial preservatives. They must use non-petroleum-based solvents, cannot be irradiated, and cannot use flavor extracts derived from genetically engineered crops.
At Teadaytea, we only use Organic Compliant Natural Flavors on the majority of our tea. As with all of our luxury ingredients, we are unwavering in our commitment to sourcing the best quality and do so from industry-leading flavoring houses.
